Have you spent months diligently honing your shooting skills at the range? At this point, you may be wondering what you can do to improve your training regimen and take your skills to the next level. Although practicing on your own can dramatically improve your shooting performance, competing against other shooters can off its own unique benefits as well. Getting involved in shooting sports is a great way to put your abilities to the test and learn from other more experienced shooters. Today we’ll share a few tips to help you get started.
Choose an Event
There are a variety of competitive shooting events to choose from, including air gun competitions, action pistol shooting, skeet shooting and even black powder competitions. When you first start out, it’s typically a good idea to choose one of these events to focus on. If you want to improve your skills with a shotgun, for example, skeet shooting might be your best bet. If you’re more interested in developing your tactical abilities, consider competing in an action pistol event instead.
Join a Local Club
USA Shooting is a nationally-recognized organization that offers a great online resource for finding local shooting clubs in your area. Here in Tennessee, you can keep an eye on the Tennessee Shooting Sports Association event calendar as well. Joining a local shooting club is a great way to meet other like-minded individuals who can swap ideas and provide suggestions for improvement. You may even be able to connect with a coach who can help prepare you for your first competition.
